GRAPEFRUIT, POWDER (F103)

Grapefruit comes from a citrus tree and has a medium-sour to sweet flavor profile, with the sweetest flavor coming from the fruit with the reddest flesh. The fruit sprang from a naturally occurring hybrid of sweet orange and the Southeast Asian fruit pomelo, which looks and tastes much like a grapefruit, but with much thicker pith and rind. The grapefruit was first discovered in Barbados in the mid-18th century, and soon spread to Jamaica. Early reports of the fruit by horticulturists call it the "forbidden fruit." Today grapefruit is mainly grown in the United States, China, South Africa and Mexico. Grapefruit is a naturally good source of vitamin C, as well as potassium, and some studies have shown that grapefruit consumption can help lower cholesterol.
