The Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act) requires the label of a food to declare the presence of major food allergens. The Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004 (FALCPA) amended the FD&C Act to define eight major food allergens and was further amended by the Food Allergy Safety Treatment Education and Research (FASTER) Act to add sesame as the ninth major food allergen.
