Non-GMO CardioAid® Plant Sterols is derived from vegetable oils. Structurally similar to cholesterol, phytosterols have been foun d, in studies, to reduce the absorption of dietary cholesterol, which can impact serum cholesterol [Mayo Clin Proc 78:965 -78 (2003); AJCN 74:33-43 (2001)]. Plant sterols are insoluble in water. This is a white to off white powder. The FDA has permitted the following claim for products containing plant sterols like CardioAid: Foods containing at least 0.4 gram per serving of plant sterols, eaten twice a day with meals for a daily total intake of at least 0.8 gram, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease.
