Liquid Sugar (2-13501)

Ingredients Labelling and Declaring Rogers Sugar brand is produced by Lantic Inc. at a Cane Sugar refinery located in Vancouver, B.C. and a Beet Sugar refinery in Taber, Alberta. Both facilities manufacture a variety of sugar and sugar containing products, for which standards are provided in Division 18 of the Food and Drug Regulations (C.R.C., c. 870). The main ingredient or component of Rogers Sugar Brand products packed at our two facilities is Sucrose; there are no other ingredients. Icing sugar is the only exception, where cornstarch is used to prevent caking. Precautions are in place to prevent any possibility of cross contamination of any other product. If there are any changes to our process or a new ingredient is introduced, we will communicate this to our customers as soon as possible. Our products are labelled as per the applicable sections of the Food and Drug Regulations (C.R.C., c. 870), as follows: a) White Granulated sugar (all granulations including but not limited to Fine, Extra Fine, Medium, Coarse and Instant Dissolving) – as per section B.18.001. b) Liquid Sucrose (67.5ºBx) or Liquid Sugar – as per sections B.18.002 and B.18.005. c) Liquid Invert Sugar (77.5ºBx, 50% Invert ODB) – as per sections B.18.004 and B.18.005. d) Icing Sugar (max 5% starch) – as per section B.18.006. e) Soft Sugars (Best Brown, Demerara Style Brown, Golden Yellow, Plantation Raw) – as per section B.18.007 f) Rogers Golden Syrup– as per section B.18.008. g) Refiners’ Molasses – as per section B.18.011. The section B.01.008.3(1) of Food and Drug Regulations (C.R.C., c. 870) states that “If a prepackaged product contains one or more sugars-based ingredients”…” the sugars-based ingredient or ingredients shall be shown in the list of ingredients, in parentheses, immediately following the term” (a) “Sugars” in the English version of the list; and (b) “Sucres” in the French version of the list. We recommend using the product name when declaring Refiners’ Molasses, Golden Syrup, Golden Yellow and Brown Sugar (includes Best Brown, Demerara Style Brown and Plantation Raw sugars) as the ingredient, to be listed in parenthesis after the term “Sugars”. Pursuant to the section B.01.008.3(4)(a) Sweetening agents are exempt from the above requirement. As per the section B.01.010(3)(b) of Food and Drug Regulations (C.R.C., c. 870), if sweetening agents (namely Granulated Sugar, Liquid Sugar, invert sugar or Liquid Invert sugar) are used singly or in combination as ingredients in prepackaged products they shall be declared as “Sugar”.
