Sodium Propionate (SP)
Sodium Propionate is a non-dusty, white agglomerate / powder. Both forms are chemically the same. This product conforms to the FCC, E281, JECFA (FAO/WHO) and Japanese Standards of Food Additives.
It is an effective growth inhibitor of most molds and bacteria and widely used in various bakery products to prevent mold and rope formation and to extend the normal shelf life. It is usually preferred in non-yeast leavened products because the calcium ions in calcium propionate can interfere with most chemical leavening agents. This product is easy to handle and to incorporate into the flour.
