Essex St. Cheese focuses on selecting and importing a limited range of iconic European cheeses. We work directly with cheesemakers and agers to select consistently flavorful wheels and ship them to New York.

Made in the region of Brabandt and hand selected by Fromagerie L'amuse. This flat, millstone shaped cheeses is made with pasteurized goat's milk and aged for 6-9 months. The maturing takes place in cellars with a cooling system that’s only turned on for a few days in summer.

Made by Massimo Libra at the Caseificio Sociale San Pietro, latterie no. 2659 in Benedello, among the Apennine hills, south of Modena. Awarded the Prodotto di Montagna, a designation of Parmigiano-Reggiano reserved for the handful of cheeses made from the milk of cows whose forage comes from the mountains. Selected and matured by Giorgio Cravero’s century and a half old firm in the town of Bra in Piemonte.

Made in Eastern France in the cooperative dairies of the Jura mountains. Aged in the renowned caves of Marcel Petite’s Fort St. Antoine. The underground fort is renowned as the aging vault for much of France’s best Comté. We’re not the only importer sourcing cheese from this location, but we are the only ones who hand select our wheels. Jason Hinds and his London-based partner, Dominic Hoyte, travel to Fort St. Antoine every six weeks to select wheels for Essex Street Cheese.

Made in the Beemster polder and hand selected by Fromagerie L'amuse. This flat, millstone shaped cheese is made from pasteurized cow's milk and aged for 24 months. Unlike most Dutch matured cheeses, l’Amuse signature Gouda is never matured in cooler temperatures. This mid temperature affinage allows the carefully selected cheeses to develop a fully rounded flavor. The cheeses are matured for 2 years and are sent out at their optimum.

Made at Sierra de la Solana Farm, in the province of Ciudad Real in La Mancha, Spain. Queso Manchego Artesano, Denominacion de Origen (PDO) is a raw milk farmstead Manchego matured for 6 months. Affineur Jose Luis Martin selects batches that feature balanced flavors without the harshness that often afflicts Manchego.
